Bitch and Moan

Just when you thought you had heard it all:
"MCCARTY'S BEEF: First baseman David McCarty, a former Stanford player, isn't thrilled to start the season at Triple-A Sacramento. He was less happy about not being included on the now-canceled trip to Japan, which, McCarty said, was to include a $30,000 bonus per player. "I'm very disappointed -- the extra money would have been nice," he said. "With the salary we get for Triple- A, I'm basically paying to play baseball -- that doesn't cover the bills."
Dave better start packing his bags. He won't be in Sacramento very long. Billy Beane doesn't like to hear this stuff through the media.

If McCarty wanted a secure job he should have looked somewhere else. Or maybe even consider giving up baseball. Hey, Tampa Bay just released Lee Stevens, there's an opeing for a 'C grade' 1st baseman.

It's really selfish and just foolish for McCarty to pop off like that. Nobody pressured him to sign a contract with with the A's or any other team. He certainly didn't do enough with the bat or glove to firmly establish a foothold on the roster. Athletes sure can be bitchy, can't they?

Raise your hands if you wouldn't be thrilled to death to "pay to play" for a AAA team, one with a ton of talent and in an organization second to none?
