Third baseman Eric Chavez, who averaged 31 homers, 107 RBIs over the previous three seasons while hitting .282, has one home run and five RBIs in his first 12 games and is batting .239.
Well, that might explain his impotent bat at the plate for the last week. If he still thinks he is going to be a bonafide free agent at the end of the season he might want to go get a CT scan and check his bank account.
He becomes a free agent at the end of the season, but is determined not to let that become a distraction.
``I'm not to the point where I'm going to let it bother me,'' said Chavez, who entered this season with a .271 average in April.
