BLUE JAYS PAVE THE WAY

BLUE JAYS DISMISS HITTING COACH:

Barnett replaced by former first base coach Brantley

Here's the problem...

Oakland701552711522968.229.299.338 .637

If Toronto's hitting coach is fired, but Oakland's Dave Hudgens keeps his job - what does that say about the A's organization?

For all the hyperbole about performance over talent and ability, why hold players to one level of standard and the coaching staff to another?

What does that say about the A's organization when the players are able to keep their jobs at the major league level without let or hinderance when they are clearly performing so poorly?

Why does a certain 3rd baseman get a free ride and not receive due condemnation for his poor play?

Why is Ken Macha so entrenched in leaving starting pitchers out on the mound to allow them a chance to garner a 'win' when they are clearly no longer effective? Last night was an excellent example of Macha trying too hard to be a nice guy and the player's friend.

Screw that.

Zito doesn't need any more friends. What he needs is to be lifted when he's got less than two outs and a runner on 1st and he is over 105 pitches.

But, here's the kicker...if the A's would score a few runs, that woudn't matter. When your margin for error is so slim that you need an electron microscope to see the difference - you need to change your process.

Comments:

I am so sick and tired of Bobby Kielty and Charles Thomas. Zachary, I agree with you that Chavez needs to take much more heat than he has. I'm going tonight, and trust me I am going to let him have it verbally. Every time I turn on the game or see the lineup card and it reads something else other than Byrnes, Kotsay, and Swisher my stomach turns. No excuses, guys. Thomas needs to turn around his hitting (and catching) woes in AAA. Kielty flat out sucks. I give a shit how cheap somebody is. WHat do we want to do, trim our payroll down to 35 mill? WE aren't spending shit on our pitchers. Dye is gone. Don't give me a bunch of crap about how our payroll is higher than it should be. We pay Byrnes 2 mill and don't let him play? WTF?? DAAMMMMNN I am so PISSED AT THIS SHIT!!!! See you guys tonight. Oh yeah, because I actually go to 25+ games a year. What a concept!!!!

Kielty is not cheap. He makes $950,00 this season. Matt Watson would make the league minimum and he has 6 stolen bases and has an OBP of .349.

And that's a slow start.

I expect to see Crosby make soon and Thomas to spend some time in AAA.

I agree. How about tough guys like Kotsay and Kendall kicking some butt in a team meeting? Has that happened yet? (doesn't look like it but it should.)

Why hasn't Macha juggled the lineup at least once to put all those who are hitting right on top? Maybe that might give our wonderful young pitchers a couple of runs.

How long might it take for Crosby not only to heal, but then get in game shape? He may be out longer than we care to think about.

why not let Thomas play regularly in AAA and get his confidence and swing back together? why not bring up someone from Sacto who is hitting well?

there's plenty that can be done that doesn't depend on Billy making a trade. This is not a good time of the season to get good value on a trade, anyway.
